With 150km of beautiful beaches and a famous, recognized surf spot, Safi – the country's fourth largest port – is decidedly focused on the sea.
To the north of Safi, the surf spot of Sidi Bouzid is an international standard point-break for surfers. Regular, fast and powerful, its wave is ranked among the top 10 in the world (a maximum of 4m high for a swell which can reach 2m). The location and the right wind conditions also attract experienced windsurfers and kite surfers.
On a calmer note, lovers of sunbathing will be delighted by the very beautiful beaches stretching over 150km of coastline. Lalla Fatna beach, 9km from Safi, is protected from the wind by a high cliff. Swimming and fishing are therefore made easier. A similar peacefulness can be found on Cape Beddouza beach between Safi and Oualidia. Not to miss: Tasting oysters directly from the Oualidia beds or in the restaurants of this charming and popular little seaside resort. South of Safi (36km), Souira Lakdima beach is well suited to fishing and walks on foot.
Gorani cave, not far from Cape Beddouza, houses the remains of cave paintings and various clay objects dating from the Neolithic Era. Through its geographical position, Safi is ideally located to be a base camp for excursions to great destinations such as Marrakech, Essaouira and El Jadida.
Due to its sports and unspoilt nature, Safi is set to become one of the future unmissable destinations on the Atlantic coast of Morocco.
