Southern Morocco is enjoyed by all ages. You and your children can have experiences which will leave unforgettable memories.
Since 1984, film studios have been established just 3km from the town. They can be visited when no shooting is in progress. Your children will be able to see the set of Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra whereas adults will enjoy the sets of Gladiator, Kundum, Harem or The Sheltering Sky. Other open-air sets in the neighbourhood can be visited by taking a guide.
Continuing your trip northwards, you will come to a magical spot used in several feature films (Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator…), the Aït Benhaddou ksar. This magnificent fortified village is a Unesco World Heritage Site and makes for an enjoyable family walk. The annual Ahwach Festival, held here in September, aims to develop the local popular culture. Its maze of adobe alleys will convince you to continue exploring the many ksour and kasbahs of the area to be found along both the Drâa and Dadès Valleys.
As well as its beautiful Berber villages, the Dadès Valley has many spectacular sights, especially the Rose Valley, the Todra Gorge and also the Skoura palm grove, which will enchant all the family. The Bird Valley reserve can be visited from April to July. You will be able to observe some of the 150 species spotted there. Many travel agencies and package tour operators propose trips into the desert for your children. The safety and the supervision on these trips are particularly well prepared. Bivouacikng for a night or camel riding with your children will be a high point to be shared.
The appeal and the equipment of Southern Morocco will satisfy all your family whether you choose to stay in Ouarzazate or take off to bivouac in the desert.
