The surprising Taroudant

Taroudant is one of the pearls of South Morocco with its historical ramparts. The crenellated walls of its ramparts extend over 6 kilometres. Flanked by 130 towers and elaborate gates, owes to Taroudant's special reputation. At daylight, it’s very pleasant to walk in the shade of it.

The former Saâdian capital conceals treasures. Its Medina with its narrow streets and the high facades of the old quarter, calls-out for an enjoyable stroll. Roaming through its alleyways is anothr way to discover traditional Morocco, by soaking up the sounds and the smells of everyday life.

Not to be outdone, its traditional souks. City of art and history, Taroudant souks invite its visitors to stroll its crowded and noisy alleys of traders negotiating goods. The Amazigh souk is particularly famous. Every day, crockery, carpets, lamps and foodstuffs are put on sale for visitors to carry charming souvenirs.

One of the specialities of Taroudant, tanning where tanners are treating hides, making leathers out of it. They work the old-fashioned way using their bare hands to shape bags, pouffes and sandals for the greatest pleasure of the travellers.

Although it bears the name of « The little Marrakech », Taroudant has a whole different history to share and experiences to give.
